"Lets Get Personal"

Want to know something personal and fun about the BD logo and how it was created? It's actually a pretty neat story..

Back in Art school when I found my calling in the arts I became infatuated with Leonardo Da Vinci's "Head Of  A Young Woman- Leda." This whole era of artists became one of my biggest inspirations and for some reason I would always come back to this painting. I think for me she was just so beautiful but so rustic and strong, I felt like that was how a woman should always feel.

I became so obsessed with this piece of art work that I actually had it tattooed on my wrist as a reminder to myself that we are truly one of a kind and beautiful.

When I decided to start BD in 2011, one of the first things I knew I had to do was come up with a logo but I wanted it to not just be any logo, I wanted it to be personal, something that hit close to home. After struggling for days on end and ripping up the majority of my ideas one of my best girlfriends came up with the idea that I should try to spell my name in my tattoo. And that's exactly what I did! It was one of those moments where we both sat their looking at it and realized that "hey, this might actually look really awesome!" Here is my original sketch before it got sent to the graphic designer. Look closely and you will see that the side of the woman's face is the letter "S" for my last name. Her nose is a "B", eyebrow an "R," her eye is an "I" and her jaw is a "T."

The BD Logo as it is today...

This is a photo of my wrist, I had the tattoo done in a light grey ink so it truly looks like a sketch. I ALWAYS wear my bracelets on this wrist. The act of digging through the stacks of BD jewels I pile on and uncovering her face hidden underneath always puts a smile on my face. I love knowing something that inspired me so long ago still has such a big impact on what I do today.

"Wrist Rock"

Some have said that a "Diamond is a girl's best friend...." But seriously... I think I might have to object. I think I have a crystal addiction. How badass is this wrist rock! SO much Chain, Crystal, Ruby and bead work it almost brings a tear to my eye. Will this cuff intimidate all of those dainty bracelets you own? Your damn right it will! Will people probably stop mid- drool and go...did you see that girls bracelet? Of course they will because how could you not notice something this...what is the word... amazing? This piece is so "in your face" and I love everything about it!

"Goodies For Me"

Oh my Gawsh!!! I am so excited..... Why? I'm making something so outrageously awesome and blingified (I know it's NOT a word but it should be) for my Thanksgiving day outfit! I know I make custom pieces for others but I always find time to make goodies for me too! A girl simply must rock her own creations and when I make a custom piece for myself it's always an experiment. It's a wonderful day when there is a challenge in the air. Inspiration- This amazingly awesome shirt! Sequins are "almost" as wonderful as crystals- but don't fret, I will make up for the lack of bling on my shirt by the outrageous bling on my wrist :)

On a side note to my morning in the studio, My son has taken a liking to my phone, If only I could teach him to return my emails...

On that note, "keep your head, heels (in my case boots) and ambition's high."

Princess Royalty Meet's Heavy Metal

The past few days I've been chained to the house and been my 5 month old son's sick buddy who is too cute for words. While unfortunately this does not promote studio time where I can crank up my music and get down in a sea of jewels it does inspire me to research new ideas and let the brainstorming begin!

I find inspiration in many things and places some would think impractical. For me I actually try not to look at other people's jewelry to get ideas. There are times it does happen but usually if thats the case its that I take several different pieces of jewelry and use what I like best about each piece and mentally dispose the rest. Or it gives me an idea of what I would have done differently with the piece. Other artists have always inspired me, but its making something your own that has always been very important to me. Thats how I started making jewelry back in the day, I'd buy a necklace and then go home and change it! My mother thought I had slightly lost my mind when I would come into the kitchen looking for a hammer after a shopping spree. She just begged me to not hammer anything on her bathroom tile. Which might have happened once or twice. Oops!

These a days I certainly have many different approaches to my jewelry making, although I still get a chuckle out of some of the things I tried to do as a teenager. Now, "Images" are my key, and architectural images are quiet possibly my number one. Whenever, wherever I am NEVER without my phone. Anytime I see something that catches my eye I always snap a picture of it to refer back to when I need it! I love approaching my work in that manner and many artists work in similar fashions. There are times when I will cover my entire office floor in a collage of images to help stimulate those creative brain cells! Also because it looks pretty darn cool. I took these at a friends wedding inside a church at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. This place was by far one of the most gorgeous pieces of architecture I have ever seen. It just screamed "Princess Royalty Meet's Heavy Metal." Talk about giving me some crazy awesome ideas!
Happy Friday from the studio-

"Something Borrowed-Something Blue"

Today's off to a great start so far! Just spent the first chunk of my morning tagging, checking details and photographing. I have wrapped up yet another wonderful one of a kind hair piece for my girl Dea Kunovac! Can't wait to see her rock this chunk of Swarovski Crystal and Rose Quartz on her big day - What a badass bride is she going to be! The time it takes to make one of these bad boys is insane but the final product is certainly worth it. Every time I complete one of these hand made pieces I always get an overwhelming feeling that reminds me why I love my work as much as I do. Sitting here looking at each hand placed crystal shining so proudly as if it could stand alone, but when they all join together it seems as if nothing could stand in their way- and trust me- you can rest assure that nothing will. If you want that something so utterly special for your big day these one of a kind statement pieces are just the ticket. Best part is, For your future daughter or daughter-in-law it can always be passed down and used as their "Something Borrowed" or "Something Blue."
