Princess Royalty Meet's Heavy Metal

The past few days I've been chained to the house and been my 5 month old son's sick buddy who is too cute for words. While unfortunately this does not promote studio time where I can crank up my music and get down in a sea of jewels it does inspire me to research new ideas and let the brainstorming begin!

I find inspiration in many things and places some would think impractical. For me I actually try not to look at other people's jewelry to get ideas. There are times it does happen but usually if thats the case its that I take several different pieces of jewelry and use what I like best about each piece and mentally dispose the rest. Or it gives me an idea of what I would have done differently with the piece. Other artists have always inspired me, but its making something your own that has always been very important to me. Thats how I started making jewelry back in the day, I'd buy a necklace and then go home and change it! My mother thought I had slightly lost my mind when I would come into the kitchen looking for a hammer after a shopping spree. She just begged me to not hammer anything on her bathroom tile. Which might have happened once or twice. Oops!

These a days I certainly have many different approaches to my jewelry making, although I still get a chuckle out of some of the things I tried to do as a teenager. Now, "Images" are my key, and architectural images are quiet possibly my number one. Whenever, wherever I am NEVER without my phone. Anytime I see something that catches my eye I always snap a picture of it to refer back to when I need it! I love approaching my work in that manner and many artists work in similar fashions. There are times when I will cover my entire office floor in a collage of images to help stimulate those creative brain cells! Also because it looks pretty darn cool. I took these at a friends wedding inside a church at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. This place was by far one of the most gorgeous pieces of architecture I have ever seen. It just screamed "Princess Royalty Meet's Heavy Metal." Talk about giving me some crazy awesome ideas!
Happy Friday from the studio-
